This course aims at connecting the field of Philosophy of Technology and Aesthetics. Contemporary technologies create smart environments. Human behavior gets deeply altered in comparism to mainly offline life-worlds from just half a century ago. We are predominantly living an online life, or as Luciano Floridi calls it: onlife. The way we move, talk and perceive is connected to responsive and interconnected technologies. That means human embodied behavior and cognition changes with and in these technological life-worlds. The aesthetics of technology plays an important role in creating interfaces and affordances within our everyday life. This course will firstly develop a notion of embodied cognition and then enter the question of how aesthetics of technology comes to bear on the latter. We will read contemporary texts from aesthetics, (post-)phenomenology and look at examples from current technological developments.
